With the postseason on the horizon, the Texas baseball team has lost a veteran presence in its bullpen.
Texas announced on Saturday that senior pitcher Max Grubbs had undergone season-ending arm surgery. Grubbs hasn’t pitched since May 5.

Grubbs is expected to make a full recovery, but Saturday’s news ended the right-hander’s collegiate career. Grubbs will be honored later today as part of the Longhorns’ Senior Day festivities.

This season, Grubbs posted a 2-0 record and 5.52 ERA over 29 1/3 innings and 19 appearances. Grubbs elected to return to Texas this season after a solid showing during a 2025 season in which he went 6-2 with a 2.84 and became one of UT’s most-reliable options out of the bullpen. An Arlington native, Grubbs served as the Longhorns’ Friday starter for a portion of the 2024 season.
Without Grubbs, No. 6 Texas (39-12) will still have plenty of options in the bullpen for the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament. Grubbs, however, would have provided Texas with valuable experience. Over the past two seasons, Grubbs pitched in three NCAA Tournament games.
