Texas A&M baseball’s clutch hitting leads to series win over MSU

Freshcorn closes it out again to secure a massive series win over Mississippi State. With national seeding implications on the line, Texas A&M got the job done via an impressive two-RBI single from Bear Harrison in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead from the Bulldogs. The Aggies recorded seven hits and seven RBIs in the win, while notching seven strikeouts and allowing 11 hits on the mound. With the win, Texas A&M should be a top-eight national seed and have locked a top-four seed in the SEC Tournament next week.

The Aggies take the lead and must get three outs in the top of the ninth to claim the series and a top national seed.

Binderup draws a two-out walk to load the bases.

Harrison’s two-RBI single into left field takes the lead back for the Aggies. Royo follows it with a double down the left field line, giving Texas A&M runners on second and third base with just one out in the inning.

Parker’s two-run homer gives the Bulldogs a one-run advantage entering the bottom of the eighth at Blue Bell Park.

Freshcorn enters the game for the Aggies and gives up a single, followed by a two-run home run from Jacob Parker. The Bulldogs retake the lead in the eighth.

The Aggies take the lead from Kellner’s clutch RBI single. Kellner has been outstanding this weekend while battling through a broken orbital socket.

Duer draws a walk to lead off the inning, and Harrison doubles to advance him to third base. Royo’s sac-fly scores Duer and ties the game.

Texas A&M and Mississippi State go down in order in the sixth, but the Bulldogs remain in front of the Aggies by a run entering the seventh inning in Bryan-College Station.

Pitzer shuts down the threat from the Aggies in the fifth, leaving a runner stranded in scoring position.

Parker is caught stealing and Valincius flied out to end the inning, but Mississippi State takes the lead in the top of the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs take the lead with back-to-back home runs. This time, it is a solo shot from Sullivan to deep center field. Parker follows that with an infield single.

Just like that, the game is back tied. Reese’s one-out, two-run home run ties the game for the Bulldogs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Aggies take the lead with Sorrell’s RBI fielder’s choice. Hacopian drives in another run with a single to center field. Runners on the corners with two outs and a 3-1 advantage for the Aggies.

Lyons ends the threat with a strikeout, but Mississippi State ties it up in the fourth inning.

The Bulldogs tie the game with Chance’s RBI groundout off Gavin Lyons, who entered the contest after Darden loaded the bases.

Stallman draws a walk to load the bases with one out.

Valincius knocks a hard-hit grounder to third base for a one-out single. Runners on first and second base for the Bulldogs.

Sullivan records a lead-off single.

Burns leaves two Aggies stranded to escape the inning with limited damage, but Texas A&M takes a 1-0 lead entering the fourth inning.

An error on the Bulldogs allows Sorrell to score from third base and Duer reached first base. Runners on first and second base with one out.

Sorrell advances to third base on a wild pitch. Texas A&M has runners on the corners with just one out.

After the back-to-back walks, McPherson exits the game. Dane Burns will be the new pitcher for the Bulldogs.

Sorrell and Hacopian draw one-out walks. Texas A&M has a runner in scoring position and Mississippi State is getting some arms warmed up in the bullpen.

Woodson secures a one-out single and advances to second base on a throwing error from Kellner, but Darden forces back-to-back groundouts to end the inning.

The Aggies put a runner in scoring position, but McPherson strikes out Kellner to end the inning.

Texas A&M draws back-to-back two-out walks against McPherson.

Royo makes an incredible diving stop to prevent a lead-off single, but Darden hits Stallman on the next at-bat. The Aggies got out of the inning by turning a double play.

McPherson forces a groundout to end the inning and leave Sorrell stranded at first base.

Grahovac strikes out, but Sorrell secures a one-out single that beats the shift on the right side of the infield. Hacopian’s deep-fly to right field marks the second out of the inning.

Mississippi State leaves a runner stranded on third in the first. Darden had some trouble with his control, but bounced back to force a fly-out and two groundouts to escape the threat.

Darden’s wild pitch allows Frei to move to second base, but he forces Reese to fly out and Sullivan’s groundout makes it two outs in the inning. Frei stands on third base.

Frei’s lead-off single back to Darden starts us off at Olsen Field.
