EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Early voting begins Monday, May 18 for the Texas primary runoff election and continues through Friday, May 22.

Election Day is Tuesday, May 26.

There are 38 early voting locations in El Paso County for the convenience of voters and hours of operation vary by site.

In Texas, when you vote in a primary election, you affiliate with either the Democratic or Republican Party. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, the top two move on to the primary runoff elections.

The runoff then decides the final party candidate for the November general election.

If you voted in the March primary, you can only vote in the primary runoff for the same party. You cannot switch parties between the primary and runoff.

If you did not vote in the March primary, you can choose to vote in either the Democratic or Republican runoff.

Statewide, Democrats will decide their nominee for lieutenant governor and for state attorney general. There are also seven judge positions on the ballot for Democrats in El Paso County.

On the Republican side of things, they will decide on their party nominees for U.S. senator, attorney general, railroad commissioner and Court of Criminal Appeals judge for Place 3.

Locally, Republicans will decide on either Manuel Barraza or Adam Bauman in Congressional District 16. The winner will face Democratic incumbent Veronica Escobar in the fall.
