Texas softball, the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, will face Arizona State in next weekend’s Austin Super Regional at McCombs Field after the Sun Devils spoiled a possible postseason chapter in the state’s fiercest rivalry on Sunday.
Arizona State run-ruled regional host Texas A&M 9-1 in College Station to advance to the Austin super regional. The best-of-three series will begin either Thursday or Friday, with times to be announced by ESPN later in the week.
After his team clinched a spot in the NCAA super regional round for the seventh consecutive postseason with Sunday’s 7-0 win over Baylor, Texas coach Mike White was eager to watch the end of the College Station Regional and got a head start on scouting the Sun Devils (44-16). The Big 12 champions, who beat Texas Tech in the conference tournament finals, haven’t played Texas since 2022, when the No. 19 Sun Devils topped the Longhorns 2-0 in Austin.

But White already knows the basics about Arizona State ace Kenzie Brown, a senior right-hander who was recently the 15rh overall pick in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League collegiate draft.
“She can spin it,” White said. “She’s a really, really good pitcher.”
Brown entered Sunday’s game against Texas A&M with a 16-6 record, a 2.28 ERA and 244 strikeouts in 150.2 innings. She ranks fourth in the nation in strikeouts with 246 after fanning two Aggies in three innings of work Sunday.
Brown is also a true workhorse who will likely see lots of action against Texas. Over the past two seasons, she’s thrown 350 innings for the Sun Devils while compiling an overall ERA of 1.78 with a 35-14 record.
