Next Monday, May 25, the U.S. will observe Memorial Day, the annual federal holiday honoring those who have died while serving in the U.S. armed forces.
Some North Texans are wondering what might be open or closed on the holiday.
Most major grocery stores, including Kroger, H-E-B, Tom Thumb, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Central Market and Walmart, will open with normal hours on Memorial Day. Aldi stores will close early at 6 p.m. and Costco will be closed all day, but Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale Club will remain open.
All banks and federal offices will close for the holiday. This includes the United States Postal Service, meaning mail will not be delivered Monday and post offices will be closed. FedEx and UPS will also halt delivery services.
Closed federal offices in Dallas include the Federal Reserve Bank, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Social Security Administration. The DMV will also close.
The cities of Dallas and Arlington will continue garbage collection as usual, but Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Irving, Plano, McKinney, Denton and Frisco will pause collection for the day, according to city websites.
Stock markets will close Monday.
Target will be open. Malls including NorthPark Center, Galleria Dallas, Grapevine Mills, Grand Prairie Outlets, Tanger Outlets Fort Worth and Hulen Mall will remain open with regular hours. Some individual stores may have different hours, so it is recommended by the malls to check with stores before heading over.
Most chain restaurants including Starbucks, Whataburger, Chick-fil-A, Sonic, Cotton Patch Cafe and Dickie’s Barbeque will remain open.
Local spots such as Shug’s Bagels and Eatzi’s will be open, but small businesses may be closed, so patrons should monitor social media pages and websites for changes.
