LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – We are gathering information on a wildfire burning near the community of Kress, in Swisher County, about 50 miles north of Lubbock.
The Texas A&M Forest Service website shows an active wildfire just west of I-27, but does not have specifics on its size.
The City of Kress posted on Facebook: There are fires very close to Kress. Please evacuate immediately. Be safe while doing it please. If anybody needs transportation, there are buses running from the school to Claytonville.
The city also posted: Please stay off the roads in Kress if possible. Lots of emergency vehicles are traveling the roads.
Several crews are dispatching from across the South Plains to the area, to fight the fire.
As we gather additional information, we will share it here.
A fire weather warning continues into the evening for the region, because of the very high wildfire risk. The gusty wind will shift out of the N/NE early Tuesday morning, as a front sweeps across the area.
