As wildfire threats grow across the Texas Panhandle, firefighters from East Texas are stepping in to help protect communities in danger.
The Lufkin Fire Department deployed firefighters Sarver and Collinsworth, along with Assistant Chief Watson, to the Panhandle as part of the Emergency Medical Task Force at the request of the Texas Division of Emergency Management. The crew is stationed in Plainview, where they are assisting with wildfire and severe weather response efforts.
At the same time, the Athens Public Safety Department announced that firefighter Tyler Reed deployed to Dumas alongside an Engine Boss from Smith County ESD2 as part of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System.
The statewide mutual aid program, coordinated by the Texas A&M Forest Service, helps departments respond to major emergencies while keeping local communities protected back home.
