Most of the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason moves have centered around the team’s defense. Would they consider adding another veteran player to their backfield?
According to ESPN, Dallas is the best fit for free-agent running back Nick Chubb. Chubb is on the market after spending the 2025 season with the Houston Texans.
“A veteran grinder at this point of his career, Chubb could provide value as the Cowboys’ No. 2 or No. 3 option behind starter Javonte Williams,” ESPN’s Matt Bowen wrote. “Chubb can still secure catches on swings and checkdowns in the passing game, but he should be viewed as an early-down option who can use his power and vision in short-yardage situations.”
Williams found success with the Cowboys last season, rushing for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. Like Williams, Chubb (5-11, 227 pounds) has stood out in the NFL for his powerful running style. Chubb ran for 506 yards and three touchdowns last year in Houston.
At this point in the offseason, the NFL still has several key players available as free agents. Chubb wasn’t the only name with Cowboys ties mentioned by ESPN.
Former Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs and edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney were included on the recently published list. Diggs’ best free-agency fit is with the Washington Commanders, while Clowney fits best with the Detroit Lions.
Diggs briefly spent some time with the Green Bay Packers after he was waived by the Cowboys late in 2025. Meanwhile, Clowney was the Cowboys’ best pass rusher last year. The veteran defender finished the year with 8.5 sacks.
