Friday is the last day to vote early for the Nov. 4 election, with polls across the Houston area closing at 7 p.m.
Heading into the final day of early voting, fewer than 7% of the registered voters in Harris County had participated.
A total of 162,286 Harris County voters cast ballots between Oct. 20-30, according to data from the Harris County Clerk’s Office. Among them, 156,124 voted in person, and 6,740 voted by mail. In 2024, there were just over 2.6 million registered voters in Harris County, meaning that approximately 6.1% of registered voters cast ballots during the first 11 days of the early voting period.

The turnout has been lower than the last comparable election in Harris County, which was in November 2023. Approximately 185,700 voters had cast ballots before the last day of early voting that year.
The ballot that year was similar to this year’s, with 14 state propositions and several municipal elections, including races for Houston mayor and city council. This year’s ballot has 17 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution along with local municipal elections, although only one Houston City Council seat is on the ballot — a special election to fill the seat being vacated by at-large council member Letitia Plummer.
The most high-profile race on the ballot is a special election to complete the term of late U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner in Texas’ 18th Congressional District, which includes large swaths of Houston.

Metropolitan MultiService Center in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood: 8,807 ballots cast
Juergens Hall Community Center in Cypress: 6,980 ballots cast
Richard and Meg Weekley Community Center in Cypress: 6,763 ballots cast

Three of the five most-visited early voting locations are located within Cy-Fair ISD, which has a contentious school board election. The state’s third-largest school district has three trustee positions on the ballot as politically conservative school board members are looking to maintain their 6-1 advantage.

One of the top five locations, Prairie View A&M University Northwest, and several of the top 10 polling locations are within Texas’ 18th Congressional District. Sixteen candidates are vying to fill the seat vacated by Turner, who died in March at the age of 70.
There are 69 early voting locations across Harris County, and there will be 576 polling locations on Election Day. Voters registered in the county can cast ballots at any of the locations.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Election Day, which is Tuesday.
