(Gray News) – Students whose ACT exams were incorrectly scored should have their corrected scores in by June, officials said.
According to Juan Elizondo, head of strategic communications for ACT, students who took the spring ACT online during the school day may have been affected by a scoring issue.
Elizondo noted that the students’ scores may stay the same or go up slightly, but will not go down.
The majority of the students affected were juniors or younger, Elizondo said.
Seniors could request that their corrected scores be automatically sent to colleges and scholarship committees.
“We’ve done very quick, careful work to make sure seniors have the revised scores they need for graduation, college enrollment and scholarships,” Elizondo said.
The issue, he said, was caught as part of ongoing quality assurance processes that happen to make sure tests get scored accurately.
“As scores continued to roll in, we saw variations and unexpected outcomes that didn’t align with what we expected,” he said.
States and school districts were notified starting on May 11. Students were expected to have their corrected scores by June 2.
