Three teenagers are in custody after a weekend-long shooting spree resulted in four people hurt and multiple cars stolen in and around the Austin area. Officials said Monday, May 18, the crime spree appeared to include a mix of both random and targeted shootings, with some victims known to the suspects while others seemed to have no known relation.
Here’s everything we know about the suspects — ages 15, 16 and 17 — linked to the 12 shootings, where the incidents happened, the status of those injured and what charges may come.

Saturday timeline: Stolen gun, stolen cars and first shootings
The Austin Police Department shared timeline details on Monday, recapping the dozen incidents the three teen suspects are allegedly linked to.
At 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, APD fielded a report of a stolen firearm from Central Texas Gun Works, located at 321 W. Ben White Blvd., Austin, TX 78704. Surveillance footage recovered from the scene captured a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata, which APD later learned had been stolen from the Social Apartments at 1817 E. Oltorf St., Austin, TX 78741.

3:58 p.m.: Police responded to a shooting at a trailer home located at 10 Yucca Drive, Austin, TX 78744, near the intersection of East Riverside Drive and East Ben White Boulevard. Police uncovered shell casings and exterior damage to the property, adding that no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.
4:30 p.m.: Police responded to the Whisper Hollow Apartments at 3300 Parker Lane, Austin, TX 78741, near Interstate 35 and East Ben White Boulevard. APD said gunfire struck multiple vehicles and an occupied apartment with adults and young children inside. No injuries were reported, and officers discovered both shell casings and surveillance footage of a black sedan at the scene.
6:19 p.m.: An unoccupied home located at 4802 Cypress Bend, Austin, TX 78744 was hit by gunfire, with the homeowner later returning to find bullet holes in his home and vehicle. A neighboring home captured on camera a dark-colored sedan, matching the vehicle linked to the previous shootings and thefts.
7 p.m.: Police fielded reports of a Hyundai Elantra stolen from a Motel 6 parking lot at 2707 S. I-35 Frontage Road North, Austin, TX 78741. On-site video captured the suspects, linking them to previous incidents.
8:30 p.m.: A witness said a suspect fired a gun into the air and shot toward a business and vehicles at 6575 Decker Lane, Austin, TX 78724, near the intersection with Loyola Lane. No damage or injuries were linked to this specific incident.
8:49 p.m.: A suspect fired toward Austin Fire Station 26 at 6702 Wentworth Drive, Austin, TX 78724, while firefighters were inside. The gunfire hit emergency response vehicles and equipment, with police confirming no firefighters were injured.
8:55 p.m.: Witnesses said at least one suspect fired from inside their vehicle near Loyola Lane and U.S. Hwy. 183 Toll Road at 5701 Purple Sage Drive, Austin, TX 78724, hitting the windshield of a parked vehicle the victims were sitting in. That person sustained minor injuries resulting from the shattered windshield glass. The witnesses told police the suspects were driving a dark-colored sedan, matching the description in previous incidents.

Sunday timeline: More shootings, a police chase and 3 detainments

A vehicle was reported stolen on Sunday, May 17, at 3:50 a.m. at 2336 Douglas St., Austin, TX 78741, near the intersection of East Oltorf Street and Burleson Road.

7:45 a.m.: Officers found a stolen vehicle with bullet damage at 1800 E. Stassney Lane, Austin, TX 78744, which was believed to be connected to the string of incidents.
8:46 a.m.: A victim was shot in the back and stomach at 7409 Janes Ranch Road, Austin, TX 78744, and taken to an area hospital. A witness told police they saw a dark-colored sedan driving away after hearing the gunfire.
9 a.m.: Officers spotted one of the stolen Hyundai vehicles at the intersection of South First Street and Ben White Boulevard, but the vehicle got away before officers could conduct a traffic stop.
9:30 a.m.: Law enforcement discovered several stolen vehicles in Southeast Austin that investigators believed were tied to the incidents and suspects.
10:46 a.m.: Austin Fire Station 32 at 2804 Monticello Circle, Austin, TX 78721 sustained gunfire and damage to an AFD vehicle and the building’s exterior. Firefighters were in the firehouse during the shooting, with a witness telling a firefighter they saw a suspect in a gold sedan firing a gun.
1:27 p.m.: Law enforcement suspected the same suspects stole a white Kia Optima at 4501 S. I-35 Frontage Road North, Austin, TX 78744.
1:44 p.m.: Two victims were shot around 2223 Burton Drive, just east of the intersection of I-35 and East Oltorf Street. Law enforcement temporarily closed parts of Burton Drive as emergency personnel responded and police carried out an active investigation.
1:53 p.m. Police fielded reports of another shooting involving a white sedan at Riverside Townhomes, located at 6118 Fairway St., Austin, TX 78741.
2:02 p.m.: Another shooting was reported at 10001 Burleson Road, Austin, TX 78719.
2:29 p.m.: A victim sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries after a shooting at 11700 Dionda Lane, Del Valle, TX 78617. As of Monday afternoon, that person was still being treated at an area hospital. Surveillance footage captured on scene showed a white Kia sedan driving near the person before they fell to the ground and the vehicle left the area.
3:23 p.m.: Manor Police Department officers discovered the white Kia Optima in the FM 973 area after fielding support requests from APD. Both MPD and Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated a vehicle pursuit until the suspects drove into a field near FM 973 and exited the vehicle. The three suspects fled on foot, with one detained near the vehicle and a second found and detained in the surrounding area by a search party involving K9s, air support and several area agencies. The third suspect remained on the run.
3:23 p.m.: The Austin Police Department issued a shelter in place notice for anyone located in or neighboring four major roadways to stay indoors: Slaughter Lane, East McKinney Falls Parkway, Ben White Boulevard and Escarpment Boulevard “due to an ongoing law enforcement incident.” In a follow-up social media post, APD confirmed that the law enforcement response was related to a series of shootings throughout the weekend.
4:25 p.m.: Austin Police lifted the shelter-in-place notice after confirming two of the suspects had been taken into custody. At the time, a third suspect remained at large in the Manor area.
9:02 p.m.: Manor Police announced it had detained the third suspect late Sunday after fielding a suspicious person report at the H-E-B Fuel station, located at 13100 N. FM 973 Road, Manor, TX 78653.

Total scope of injuries, damages sustained across 12 shootings
Austin Police confirmed four people were shot during the two-day rampage, with three people sustaining non-life-threatening injuries while a fourth person sustained critical injuries. They were later taken to a trauma center, and they were still hospitalized as of Monday afternoon.

Five total vehicles were hit by gunfire, alongside four residences, two fire stations and three fire department vehicles were hit. Police confirmed at least five vehicles and one firearm were stolen during the string of incidents.
Police release details on shooting suspects, expected charges
On Monday, police said that on Sunday evening, Cristian Fajardo Mondragon, 17, was taken into custody alongside a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old. Specific details regarding the identities of the other two suspects are limited, given their underage status. At the same time, Texas law defines 17 as the age of criminal responsibility, where suspects can be publicly identified.

Specific charges are still pending against the three suspects, but Austin Police officials said they expect those formal charges to include multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, deadly conduct, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, theft of a firearm and similar offenses. Officials said additional charges could be filed as law enforcement personnel continue to review ballistics, surveillance footage, witness statements and other evidence gathered.
