The Japan-based concept will make its U.S. debut in North Texas next summer

A new ramen concept rooted in authentic Hakata-style cooking is preparing to make its U.S. debut in Plano.

Kouchan Ramen, a tonkotsu ramen brand produced by Japan-based Hakata Ikkousha, is scheduled to open in Plano in Summer 2026, bringing a traditional style of pork-broth ramen that has built a strong following across Asia. The restaurant will be located at 4709 W. Parker Rd., Suite 440.

Bringing Hakata Ramen Culture To North Texas

Kouchan Ramen specializes in Hakata tonkotsu ramen, a style originating from Fukuoka, Japan, known for its rich pork bone broth and thin noodles.

Unlike heavier ramen styles, Hakata ramen is traditionally designed to be flavorful yet approachable enough for everyday dining. The broth is simmered for hours to develop a deep umami flavor while maintaining a smooth finish.

The Plano restaurant will also prepare its noodles fresh in-house using a custom flour blend developed specifically to pair with the broth. According to the company, the noodles are designed to deliver the signature Hakata texture: thin, slightly chewy and firm with a clean bite.

Traditional Ramen Customization

Part of the experience will include customization options commonly associated with authentic Hakata ramen shops in Japan.

Customers will be able to select noodle firmness levels ranging from soft to extra firm and order kaedama, or extra noodle servings added to remaining broth, a staple part of Hakata ramen culture.

Menu highlights are expected to include:

Classic Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen
Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen with chili oil and spicy miso
Chashu pork toppings
Fresh green onions and traditional garnishes

The restaurant’s concept centers around the phrase “fast, delicious and worth coming back for.”

Why Plano?

The opening reflects the continued growth of Japanese dining culture across North Texas, particularly in Collin County, where ramen, sushi and specialty Japanese concepts continue expanding alongside the region’s rapidly growing population.

Updates regarding grand opening dates, promotions and menus will be shared through the restaurant’s website and social media channels.
