EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso has completed $3.7 million in renovations to Fire Station No. 22 in West El Paso.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 19, at 6500 N. Mesa St.

According to the City of El Paso, the roughly $3.7 million renovations were funded through the voter-approved 2019 Public Safety Bond, which “strengthens the City’s emergency response capabilities by modernizing the station and improving operational efficiency for El Paso Fire Department crews.”
The improvements included the following:
Interior and exterior renovations
New flooring, lighting control panel and upgraded fire alarm system
New kitchen, restrooms, showers and decontamination room
HVAC, electrical and plumbing upgrades
New additions for locker rooms, an exercise area, EMS supply space, new bay doors and landscaping
El Paso Fire Chief Jonathan Killings says the long-awaited completed renovations make him proud.
“It makes me proud of the commitment of the citizens of El Paso to public safety. I feel proud to work for this city because this city loves its fire department and they’ve shown that commitment with the public safety bond. And it also makes me proud to work for a city that can really come together administratively to get these projects done,” Killings said.
Luis Flores, a planning and development manager for the El Paso Fire Department, said that the crew that was stationed at Fire Station No. 22 had to be relocated.
“Well, now that all the crews are back from, since they’re relocated during the remodel, now that they’re actually back in their location, it’s definitely going to help assist in the response because now they’re where they’re supposed to be placed. So we’re definitely going to respond at a better rate now,” Flores said.
Fire Station No. 22’s renovation is part of the City’s continued investment in public safety infrastructure and commitment to maintaining El Paso’s standing as one of the nation’s safest cities, according to the City of El Paso.
