Chiefs WR Rashee Rice arrested for probation violation

  • May 20, 2026

DALLAS (KCTV) – Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was arrested Tuesday in Dallas County, Texas, for a violation of the terms of his probation.

According to court documents filed in Dallas County court, Rice tested positive for THC and was taken into custody for violating the terms of his probation. The terms of the probation were set as the result of his role in a six-car crash on Easter Sunday in March 2024.

Rice was ordered to serve 30 days in jail as the result of Tuesday’s arrest, a 30-day jail sentence that had previously been issued to him on July 17, 2025, when he pled guilty to a trio of felony charges.

The Chiefs declined to comment on the case Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. A message sent to Rice’s attorney was not immediately returned.

Rice’s 30 days in jail, which will keep him in custody until June 16, 2026, mean he will miss the Chiefs’ OTAs and mandatory mini-camp this offseason as he enters the final season of his rookie contract.

At the time of Rice’s guilty plea last July, he issued a statement apologizing to the victims.

“Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole,” said Rice. “I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property.

“I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”

The SMU product was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and has had trouble staying on the field due to a torn ACL in 2024 and a six-game suspension in 2025.

Rice missed the first six games of 2025 due to the suspension for his role in the six-car crash and finished the year with 53 receptions, 571 yards and 5 touchdowns, missing the final few games of the 2025 season due to a concussion.

This offseason, Rice was accused of domestic assault in a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend. The NFL investigated the claims and closed it, determining that Rice would not be suspended for a second time.
