Thousands of CPS Energy customers in San Antonio are without power after storms rolled through the area overnight on Wednesday, May 20.
A CPS Energy outage map shows that 3,394 customers are currently without power due to 87 active outages as of 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20. CPS Energy wrote on X around 6:55 a.m. that the weather-related outages are the largest in the following zip codes: 78209 and 78247.
“CPS Energy teams are continuing to safely restore power to customers who remain without service,” the local utility company wrote in its post. “Crew safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate our community’s patience as repairs continue.”
The outages occurred after severe storms slammed the San Antonio area Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. The main threats in the storms were hail and strong wind gusts, according to the National Weather Service.
In San Antonio, rainfall is most likely to occur from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday.
Thunderstorms are likely to return, mainly in the evening and overnight, according to the NWS. About a half to 1 inch of rain is expected through Thursday morning, with the highest totals in the west.
