As severe weather moves through Central Texas, many homeowners are starting to think about something they often don’t notice until there’s a problem — the roof over their heads.
Today on We Are Austin, Chris Arevalo joined Sierra Waggoner to share expert advice on roof damage, storm preparedness, and how homeowners can better navigate the insurance claims process when severe weather strikes.
Arevalo said Altair Austin Roofing Company focuses on creating a more transparent and personal experience for homeowners throughout the roofing process.
“At Altair, we like to separate ourselves from everybody else,” Arevalo said. “We try to give you a personal experience — as if you were on the roof yourself.”
He explained that one of the ways the company builds trust with homeowners is through detailed photo documentation throughout the project.
“If we say we’re putting something on your roof, there’s a photo showing proof that we did it,” he said.
When it comes to insurance claims, Arevalo says one of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is filing a claim before having a professional inspection completed.
“Get somebody reputable to inspect your roof,” Arevalo said. “Some companies end up just saying, ‘Go ahead and file, let’s see what happens.’ No — don’t do that.”
With hail, high winds, and heavy rain becoming increasingly common across Texas, Arevalo said it is important for homeowners to understand the difference between aging roofs and legitimate storm-related damage.
“Wind damage is going to be obvious,” he explained. “Missing shingles are easy to see. Hail damage is not so easy, so you really need a professional to come inspect your roof and properly document everything.”
Before contacting an insurance company, Arevalo recommends homeowners first research reputable roofing companies, gather inspections, and review documentation carefully.
“Look for reviews for a roofing company,” he said. “Get a couple to come out, have them document the damage with photos, and help explain your policy.”
Beyond repairs, Altair Austin Roofing Company also works closely with homeowners throughout the insurance process itself — something Arevalo says helps eliminate stress and confusion.
“We go through the entire process and make it to where the homeowner doesn’t have to do much at all,” he said. “We get all the documentation, all the photos, explain deductibles, policies, and help guide them through everything.”
For Arevalo, the work is personal. He shared that his passion for roofing started after seeing a family friend taken advantage of financially by another company.
“A family friend’s grandma got taken for $2,500,” he said. “That’s actually what got me into roofing.”
Now, he says his goal is to provide honest work and make sure homeowners feel protected during what can often be an overwhelming process.
“I know not every roofing company is great,” Arevalo said. “But I know that if you go with Altair, you’re going to get a great roof.”
