LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock police officer and a Lubbock firefighter are on administrative leave after being arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to falsify a birth certificate, according to court documents.
April Mora, an officer with the Lubbock Police Department, and Jonathan Forkner, a firefighter with Lubbock Fire Rescue, were arrested Tuesday in a false records case investigated by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit.
Court documents reveal Mora ended a previous relationship while she was pregnant at which time she began dating Forkner.
Documents state a pre-birth paternity test was completed in February of 2023 and confirmed Mora’s previous partner was the father.
Documents state Mora texted the biological father a screenshot of the results, along with a message saying, “And no he will not carry your last name, I’ll be sure you aren’t there during my birth!!”
The biological father told investigators Mora falsified hospital records listing her then boyfriend Forkner as the father of his child.
After Fornker provided his statement to investigators, it appears Mora told Forkner she spoke with an employee at UMC involved with the birth certificate paperwork and it was okay for him to sign it.
Forkner admitted he signed an acknowledgment of paternity without witnessing the conversation.
On May 15, a search warrant was executed at UMC Business and Technology obtaining all birth certificate records as evidence. After reviewing the birth certificate records it was determined Mora’s and Forkner’s signatures on official paternity forms identified themselves as the mother and father.
A witness referenced in the court documents told investigators if a patient indicated a paternity test had been completed, they will not allow anyone other than the biological father to be listed on paternity forms.
Mora and Fornker were booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center Tuesday and have since bonded out.
