Polls open Monday for Tarrant County’s primary runoff elections, and voters have five days of early voting to cast a ballot ahead of Election Day.
Early voting is May 18-22, and polls are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily. Election Day is May 26.
Both the Republican and Democratic ballots feature statewide offices, meaning all Texas voters can cast a ballot in the runoffs. Each party’s primary saw five races go to a runoff, ranging from county commissioner to U.S. senator.
Voters may see which races will be on their ballot by downloading a sample ballot from the county elections website.
In primary elections, voters nominate a Republican candidate and a Democratic candidate to run against each other in the November midterm elections. Races that saw no candidate win more than 50% of votes March 3 got put back on the ballot for a runoff election between the top two vote-getters.
In Texas, voters are not required to register with a political party, meaning they may vote in a different party’s primary each year. However, those who voted in the primaries in March must vote in the same party during the runoffs.
Registered voters may cast a ballot at any of the county’s 37 early voting locations. Voters can check their registration status here.
Voters must provide one of seven acceptable forms of photo identification, which may be expired for up to four years:
Texas driver license
Texas election identification certificate
Texas personal identification card
Texas gun license
U.S. military identification card with a photograph
U.S. citizenship certificate with a photograph
U.S. passport (book or card)
