LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A candidate for Texas’ 19th Congressional District was in Lubbock Wednesday hoping to earn votes ahead of next week’s primary runoff election.
Abraham Enriquez and Tom Sell are both hoping to advance to November and face Democrat Kyle Rable in the race to represent District 19.
Enriquez hosted a campaign stop in downtown Lubbock Wednesday to touch on some of the things he believes he brings to the table.
“It’s very clear we are the law and order candidate. I’m very blessed for the foot army we have, you look at the polling locations today, I don’t think anyone has built the grassroot army that we have,” Enriquez said.
Enriquez said the number one issue to address is codifying President Trump’s border policy. He is endorsed by Paul Perez, the National Border Patrol Council president, who believes someone like Enriquez will bring that law and order to the table.
“We’ve seen from day one, hour one of President Trump’s administration, what we can do when law enforcement is allowed to do their jobs. Somebody like Abraham Enriquez will come in there and make sure he supports us and allows us to continue to doing the job of securing this country,” Perez said.
Enriquez is also backed by Mayor Mark McBrayer, who gave his endorsement in early May. McBrayer said he believes Enriquez will hold on to his West Texas values.
“We also have to understand our farmers and ranchers have a lot of issues we need to deal with, right? We need to revolutionize a farm bill, we need to put policies in place that actually benefit the small rancher and farmer,” Enriquez said. “I am all for West Texas beating China in the AI race, however, it has to be accountable to the people of West Texas.”
May 26 will mark an important day for Enriquez and his Republican opponent, Sell, and he feels he’s pushing in the right direction in the race for District 19.
Four previous primary opponents have since endorsed Tom Sell.
“I think my greatest strength is my faith and it walks with me in every door I step and every small farm that I visit and every small business that I visit. My faith is my everything and the reason why I’m going to win this race is because of my faith,” Enriquez said.
