Burger lovers in Central Texas will soon have a buzzy New York City-born joint to sink their teeth into. Shake Shack will be opening a $1 million restaurant in a growing north Austin suburb this year.
Although the NYC-based burger spot has not set an opening date for its Georgetown outpost yet, a Shake Shack spokesperson confirmed to MySA that the restaurant is still slated to open in 2026. Construction on the $980,000 project was expected to begin in early March this year and is set to wrap up by the end of June, according to the initial Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. However, all TDLR filings are subject to change without notice.
The new Georgetown Shake Shack will be located at 1320 W. University Avenue, and will join several nearby retailers like an Academy Sports + Outdoors and an H-E-B, per Google Maps. It will be a 3,000-square-foot fast food restaurant fit with a drive-thru, a convenience perk that the company only started developing five years ago.
Shake Shack is a modern yet fast-casual restaurant best known for its Angus beef burgers, hand-spun milkshakes, and crinkle fries. The restaurant started as a hot dog stand in NYC’s Madison Square Park in 2001 and has since grown into a popular world-renowned chain with more than 500 global locations, a majority of which are in the U.S.
Shake Shack currently operates nearly 30 Texas locations in cities like Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and surrounding areas. More recently, the chain also set expansion plans for more Austin-area restaurants in Leander and north Austin.
