The San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are back for Game 2 of the Western Conference finals Wednesday night … and boy, are there high expectations for the sequel.
The Spurs stunned the Thunder and took Game 1 on the road, 122-115, in a thrilling double-overtime installment made possible by the best game of big man Victor Wembanyama’s young career. He finished the game playing a career-high 48 minutes, 42 seconds, with 41 points, 24 boards, 3 assists and 3 blocks. Wemby was aided in the effort by rookie Dylan Harper, who shined with his second career double-double in his first start of the postseason.

After accepting his second consecutive MVP award from Adam Silver ahead of the game, Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a night to forget, shooting 7 of 23 from the field with a game-worst minus-15. Alex Caruso did his best to compensate, scoring a team-high 31 points off the bench while going 8 of 13 from 3, but it wasn’t enough.

Make that two fouls called on Victor Wembanyama that were overturned by a successful challenge.
Wembanyama’s third would-be foul on a clean block of Chet Holmgren was overturned late in the second quarter.
The challenges have kept Wembanyama out of unnecessary foul trouble and are certainly worth it. But the Spurs are out of challenges for the rest of the game.
