Five matches in 19 days and Fort Wayne Football Club remained unbeaten in regulation at Ruoff Mortgage Stadium, its new home in its first professional soccer season in USL League One.

But Fort Wayne’s 1-1 draw Wednesday against Corpus Christi FC, the club currently residing at the bottom of the 17-team League One standings, didn’t sit well with Fort Wayne head coach Mike Avery.

“It was a different game for sure, but there’s no game in this league that’s easy,” Avery said. “You can never look at the standings, top, bottom, it doesn’t matter, there’s nothing easy.

“We knew that it was going to be a hard game, but it’s a choppy game. When you’re a rhythm team, sometimes when you get knocked out of rhythm it’s hard to get back into it. But even saying that, we should have had four or five goals on the night and we didn’t. That’s really the story of the day, we have to be more clinical when you get in front of goal.”

The one goal scored by Fort Wayne (3-2-3, 12 points) came off the head of defender Tiago Dias in the 50th minute on a corner kick opportunity. The goal – the seventh for Dias in his now four years in a Fort Wayne shirt – moved the club captain into a tie for third place in club history in career goals. Dias joins Caio Oliveira, who scored seven goals in 2025 in Fort Wayne FC’s final season in League Two, sitting just one off the club co-leaders (Gijs Hovius and Max Amoako, who both scored eight goals across two seasons with the club in League Two).

While Dias knows club history potentially awaits with his next goal, he also knows there are others on the club this season that are quickly moving up the list. Taig Healy saw his scoring streak against League One opponents end at four, and he has already scored five goals in his first season with Fort Wayne, while Lilian Ricol has scored four goals so far in 2026.

“(It’s) exciting,” Dias said. “I’m one of the ones with the longest (time) in the club, and being the club leader as a center back will be nice for a bit. Hopefully Taig can catch me soon, and Lilian. It’s very exciting for sure.”

Corpus Christi (0-4-4, 4 points) struck back in the 63rd minute, capitalizing on a counterattack opportunity that turned into a three-on-one situation. Alexis Cerritos accepted a pass across the goalmouth, and with Fort Wayne goalkeeper Bernd Schipmann unable to cover the entirety of the net, Cerritos tipped the pass into goal for the equalizer.

Fort Wayne pounded the goal after going a man up in the 72nd minute when Arthur Medina received a red card following a second yellow for a foul just outside the 18-yard box. Despite holding 64.4% possession in the match and outshooting Corpus Christi 18-5, including a shot that bounced off the crossbar in second-half stoppage time, Fort Wayne settled for the draw in front of 2,399 fans to move into sixth place.

Fort Wayne FC has little time to recover from Wednesday’s match, as the club will play on three days’ rest Saturday night at Athletic Club Boise (4-2-2, 14 points), which sits fourth in the standings.

“The nice thing about a game that feels like this, you just put it behind you as quickly as you can and you turn the page,” Avery said. “We have to get ready for the next one.”
