Deep Ellum’s Komodo Dallas has closed its doors

Komodo, the large Asian restaurant in Deep Ellum, abruptly closed its doors.

According to a D magazine report, guests with upcoming reservations received a text informing them that the restaurant would close permanently and that their reservations could not be honored.  

The closure took place without an official announcement on social media or Groot Hospitality’s website.  

Komodo was a two-story, 22,500-square-foot restaurant, bar and lounge located inside The Epic in Deep Ellum. It offered elevated Southeast Asian cuisine and steaks in a dramatically designed building featuring signature cocktails. The star of the menu was Peking duck, but a menu of elevated dishes was offered for every holiday.  

Komodo Dallas was the only concept in Texas owned by David Grutman, founder of Groot Hospitality. The group also owns Komodo Miami and Komodo Las Vegas, which remain open, as well as Casadonna, Gekko and LIV Beach in Miami, LIV Fontainebleau in Las Vegas and Miami, and Papi Steak in both cities.
