After good Samaritans found a pair of sealed plastic bins filled with kittens on the side of the road, San Antonio’s Animal Care Services, or ACS, is partnering with renowned animal welfare organization Alley Cat Allies to help positively identify possible suspects amid an ongoing animal cruelty investigation.
According to a Tuesday post to social media, ACS and Alley Cat Allies are offering a $10,000 reward “for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.” The kittens were discovered in mid-February, ACS representatives wrote, trapped in discarded plastic bins found roadside at the 1100 block of Somerset Road on the city’s Southwest Side.
“These kittens deserved better,” the post reads. “Inside one of the plastic totes was a number of small black and white kittens. Scared. Alone. Abandoned. Trapped in another bin, several little ones didn’t make it. Tragically, despite efforts to help, more kittens later passed away.”
ACS representatives said investigators believe the animals may have been abandoned “sometime during the overnight hours,” but no suspects have been positively identified since the kittens were discovered.
“Anyone with information about the Somerset Road case is urged to call 311 and ask to speak with an ACS Cruelty Investigator,” the post reads. “Even seemingly small details could help investigators move this case forward. Animal cruelty is a crime, and San Antonio is better than this.”
