The San Antonio-based grocery chain will be shuttering its Spicewood Springs store located at 12860 Research Boulevard in northwest Austin. Its last day in operations will be Friday, July 31. An H-E-B employee confirmed to MySA that the location is approaching the end of its lease, and the company made the decision not to renew it and instead, close the store.
The Texas-based grocery chain said its decision to close the Austin store came as part of a routine evaluation of its network.The Spicewood Springs H-E-B was built in the early 1980s and is one of the company’s smaller, outdated grocery stores.
“While decisions like this are never easy, we are grateful to the customers, Partners, and community who have supported this store over the years,” said Cathy Harm, H-E-B senior vice president, Central Texas, in a statement sent to MySA. “As this lease comes to an end, we remain committed to serving this area and have invested in more updated stores nearby to further enhance the shopping experience and provide the products, conveniences, and services our customers deserve.”
To help its Spicewood Springs customers adjust after the store’s closure, H-E-B will offer free curbside and delivery in August to residents in surrounding neighborhoods. The company will also offer all of the store’s employees positions at other locations.
