EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man who was arrested for an aggravated robbery of an electronics store remains jailed after a magistrate judge denied bond Thursday morning, May 21.
As KTSM previously reported, 57-year-old Rodolfo Madrid Torres was arrested on Tuesday, May 19, and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on an aggravated robbery charge.

Details from the El Paso Police Department revealed that Torres entered the business, assaulted the owner, and demanded money. The owner was able to break free and lock the suspect inside the business.

Assistant District Attorney Cristina Viesca-Santos made a statement to the judge during the bond hearing as she read the arrest affidavit:

“The defendant went into the business and demanded from the owner, Marta Ascuna, who is 73 years old, to tell him where the money was. He ended up placing her in a chokehold, pulling her by the left arm, and pulling her hair. When he saw there was cash on a counter, he let her go. He went for the cash. It was $1,400. Then he also took 300 Mexican pesos and the victim’s wallet, containing her driver’s license, U.S. passport, and Sam’s Club debit card. She ended up taking the keys and locking him inside the building, but I believe by the time the officers got there, he was able to get out, and they later arrested him.”
