Get ready, El Paso because the first weekend in November is about to be bursting with color, culture, and community spirit for Dia De Los Muertos.

Día de los Muertos — or Day of the Dead — is a vibrant Mexican tradition that honors the lives of loved ones who’ve passed on. Instead of mourning, families celebrate through music, food, and memories, creating ofrendas (altars) decorated with photos, candles, and marigolds which are the flowers believed to guide spirits back home. IThis day is not about sadness, it’s about connection and keeping memories alive through joy, color, and love.

Rooted in ancient Mesoamerican traditions and blended with Catholic influences, the holiday takes place on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. From calaveras (sugar skulls) to pan de muerto and papel picado, every detail is meant to celebrate the beauty of life and the cycle of death in the most beautiful, uniquely Mexican way.
