EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Downtown El Paso will once again celebrate the music, culture and legacy of Selena Quintanilla next weekend as the Selena & Salsa Market returns to Union Plaza.

The free, family-friendly event is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, local vendors, food and community activities.

Organized by the Downtown Management District, the annual celebration will include more than 40 market and food vendors, performances by Jezzika Sax, a Selena look-alike contest and a salsa tasting competition where attendees can vote for their favorite salsa.

“Selena’s music continues to bring generations together, and this event is a celebration of that lasting impact through music, food, culture, and community,” Brenda Sanchez, the Downtown Management District’s event coordinator, said in a statement.

The Downtown Management District is partnering with La Nube STEAM Discovery Center and the Mexican American Cultural Center for the event.

Festivities will begin ahead of the main event with the MACC Selena & Salsa Pre-Party on Friday, May 29, offering an additional opportunity for the community to celebrate Selena’s influence on music and culture.

The event is open to the public at no cost.
