EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — An inmate at the El Paso County Jail Annex died early in May after suffering a medical emergency while in custody, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The inmate was identified as Edward Tomas Moore, who had been in custody since Sept. 11, 2025.

Moore was being held on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, interfering with an emergency request for assistance, and possession of a controlled substance.

His total bond amount was set at $225,000.

According to officials, the incident occurred on May 8 at approximately 6:56 a.m., when Moore appeared to suffer a possible seizure inside his housing pod.

Medical staff was immediately requested to the cell block, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said medical personnel arrived at approximately 7:01 a.m. and began performing CPR while emergency medical services were activated.

El Paso Fire and EMS crews arrived at the jail annex around 7:17 a.m. and continued life-saving efforts before transporting Moore to Providence East Hospital at approximately 7:37 a.m., authorities said.

Moore was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The cause of the medical emergency has not yet been released.

The death remains under investigation by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Texas Rangers, and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. Officials said the Texas Commission on Jail Standards was notified in accordance with state law.
