Texas A&M baseball was eliminated from the SEC Tournament in a 7-0 shutout loss to Auburn on Friday night in Hoover, Alabama.
The Tigers established their dominance by jumping out to a 5-0 lead over the Aggies through the first two innings of the contest, while right-handed pitcher Andreas Alvarez built one of his best performances on the mound this season. Auburn limited one of the top lineups in the conference to just two hits, while adding a run on an RBI single from Chris Rembert and another from a solo home run via Ethin Bingaman to capture its third win of the season over Texas A&M.
Michael Earley’s club is projected as a top-eight national seed, but the lackluster performance on Friday night at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium left some doubt for the selection committee.
In four total matchups against Auburn this year, Texas A&M has allowed 33 total runs for an average of eight allowed per game. Entering the SEC Tournament, the Aggies ranked first in the league in team ERA and WHIP. That was on full display from guys like Alvarez and LJ Cormier, who combined for 12 strikeouts on Friday night.
The disappointing performance from the Maroon and White sparks much conversation about the future of the pitching rotation entering regional play. Ethan Darden got the start for the Aggies against the Tigers, but only pitched one inning before he was pulled, after giving up four earned runs on five hits. Gavin Lyons, Shane Sdao, Weston Moss and Clayton Freshcorn all got reps on the mound to try and combat Auburn’s success at the plate, but it wasn’t enough.

Texas A&M’s uncharacteristic outing at the plate was highlighted by poor at-bats up and down the lineup, including from the star-studded duo of Caden Sorrell and Gavin Grahovac. The pair went a combined 1-of-8, with Sorrell’s sole hit being one of the two the Aggies recorded.

Bingaman mashes a lead-off solo home run to the parking lot. The freshman’s homer traveled 412 feet to extend Auburn’s lead, 7-0, over Texas A&M.

The Aggies had an opportunity to get on the board with runners on second and third base with no outs, but they squandered it with Grahovac and Sorrell striking out, followed by an inning-ending groundout from Hacopian.
Alvarez gives up back-to-back walks to Binderup and Kellner to lead off the top of the third.

An error by Kellner on a pop-fly at shortstop allows Belza to reach first base, but that is all for the Tigers in the top of the third. Lyons added two strikeouts in the inning.

A two-run double from Fralick gives Auburn a 4-0 advantage over Texas A&M with just one out.
Texas A&M makes a pitching change after the two singles. Gavin Lyons will enter the contest in relief of Darden, who went one inning and allowed five hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out two.
