ASHFORD, Ala. (WTVY) -A high-speed chase that spanned two counties ended along U.S. 84 at Springhill Road after the suspect vehicle caught fire while traveling the wrong way on a four-lane highway at speeds up to 100 miles-per-hour late Friday night, reports confirmed.
The vehicle was heading west in the eastbound lanes in eastern Houston County when the chase ended, according to reports. Officers worked to prevent a head-on collision with other motorists, and the fire ended the pursuit before any injuries were reported.
The suspect, who drove an out-of-state vehicle was taken into custody without incident, reports said. The situation was serious enough that Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza responded to the scene.
WTVY News 4 could not immediately confirm how many agencies participated beyond Houston County, and it was unclear late Friday what prompted the pursuit or the reason for the fire.
