WOODROW, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock-Cooper Pirates (6-4, 3-3) officially claimed a playoff spot as they closed out their regular season with a 42-25 win over Abilene Wylie.
The Pirates struck early on their opening possession when QB Ryan Rodriguez connected with WR Cade Gant who spun past the Bulldog defenders and moved the chains for Cooper. On that same drive, Rodriguez faked a hand-off and found Chamayne Johnson for the Pirate TD. On the ensuing possession, LCP was able to limit Wylie to a field goal. The fast start set the tone for Cooper’s second-consecutive win.
The Pirates have an open date next week, and will then gear up for the 5A- Division II playoffs.
