Strong winds uprooted tree in Corpus Christi neighborhood

Carlos Torres expresses gratitude as a 25-foot tree uprooted by a storm narrowly misses his home, though it damages a storage unit and a newly bought trampoline.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As the storm passed through the area, Carlos Torres and his family never imagined something bad would happen at home.

“Just a bunch of loud thunder and, you know, lightning and a big one hit and you know we sometimes feel even like the floor shake and stuff so that’s we just thought it was that,” Torres said.

A 25-foot tree was uprooted by the winds, damaging a storage unit and a trampoline.

“I just bought my kids a new trampoline. They’re gonna be sad about that, but it’s all right. I will work for it. Like I said, nothing that can be replaced. I just wanna, I’m just grateful to God that didn’t, it didn’t hit the house,” Torre.s said

This isn’t the first time a tree has fallen.

“When Harvey hit, because we had more trees in the back and more storage rooms in the back, and when Harvey hit, we had like two trees fall that storage room got blown over, but like, uh, this tree has been here for a good while and hasn’t, it stood through Harvey and everything. I guess finally give up,” Torres said.
At the end, Torres said the damage wasn’t too bad.

“I’m just grateful that it didn’t hit the house because you can see it fell straight this way. I, I was telling my family, you know, there’s so many different angles that it could have possibly fell in and it could’ve been a lot worse,” Torres said.
