#9 Vanderbilt vs. #20 Texas: The matchup

Vanderbilt is in the hunt for a third straight win over a ranked opponent and a shot to win an SEC title on Saturday against the Longhorns. The Commodores are 3-1 in SEC play and part of a top-10 pack chasing the unbeaten duo of Texas A&M and Alabama, with the latter program handing Vandy its first and only loss of the season (30-14) back in Week 6. Vandy bounced back with a 31-24 win over then-No. 10 LSU (31-24) and another last weekend over No. 15 Missouri (17-10). Quarterback Diego Pavio was once again a driving force in both wins, including a game-winning 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter last week against Mizzou.

The Longhorns are finding their stride after a lackluster loss to Ohio State (14-7-) to open the season. Texas is 3-0 over its past three matchups and still alive for lofty goals that came with being the No. 1 team in the country in the preseason Associated Press poll. But a 23-6 win over then-No. 6 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry sparked a run that picked up steam with SEC wins over Kentucky (16-13) and Mississippi State (45-38).
