A Michelin-starred Central Texas barbecue joint is serving up a rare burger deal that’s as mouth-watering as it is affordable.
LeRoy and Lewis co-owner, Lindsey LeRoy, told MySA that when they first rolled out the burgers, they struggled to sell six per day, but now the restaurant peaks at selling 600 burgers on a busy Monday.
Known for its “New School BBQ, Old School Service,” LeRoy and Lewis began as a food truck at Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden, until it grew to open its first permanent location in South Austin in 2023. LeRoy said the Monday burger deal started in late summer 2024 at the restaurant “as a fun service industry special when we first opened on Mondays, along with discounted Lone Star tallboys and drink specials for an all-day happy hour.”
The burger is a half-pound patty made from smoked and seared brisket trimmings, topped with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and special sauce on a toasted potato bun. While the L&L burger is available every other day on the menu for $16, the restaurant exclusively sells it for $10 all-day on Mondays.
Pro-tip: if you want the L&L burger, you can skip the typically longer barbecue line and order it at the bar or the “Anytime Eats” counter as soon as you walk into the restaurant.
MySA visited LeRoy and Lewis barbecue on a recent Monday in May to try this Michelin-worthy burger deal that quickly went viral online. The L&L burger is $10 by itself, but you can add beef fat potato chips for an extra $3 to make it a meal, which is exactly what I did.
After ordering at the bar, my burger was ready in less than 10 minutes, which I thought made it perfect for a mid-day lunch break. Picking up the burger, I used two hands because of how thick the patty was and dipped it into a sweet barbecue sauce to taste.
Within the first bite, I could taste the smokiness of the brisket and the well-seasoned crust around the patty. Inside, the patty had a dark pink center, and the cheese plus pickles paired well with the savoriness of the meat, while the grilled onions melted in my mouth.
The beef fat chips were crunchy and crispy, making them a perfect side for the burger. Overall, it felt like eating an elevated version of a Happy Meal for a similar price, which of course left my wallet and stomach extremely satisfied.
For barbecue fans who want to learn how to make the L&L burger at home, it will be featured in Evan LeRoy’s new cookbook, New School Barbecue: Recipes for Next-Level Smoking and Grilling, which debuted May 12. The book is available for pre-order and can be found on the LeRoy and Lewis website or anywhere books are sold.
