ROCKPORT, Texas — Dozens of Rockport residents came out to remember the lives lost defending the country as part of that community’s Memorial Day observances. Flags for Heroes is an event put on by the Rockport American GI Forum and held near the harbor at Rockport Veterans’ Memorial Park.
On Friday, volunteers armed with American flags placed a flag at the graves of service members laid to rest at cemeteries in Rockport, Fulton and Lamar. Residents were given the opportunity to sponsor a flag in honor of a veteran. All of that leading up to a ceremony paying tribute to veterans and fallen heroes.

Organizers say this is really a chance for the community to honor loved ones that have made the ultimate sacrifice and fought for our freedoms. The event was organized by the GI Forum, VFW Post 3904 and the American Legion.
