Democratic voters across Tarrant County will decide Tuesday who should represent the party on November’s ballot in a few local and statewide runoffs.
Races include the Democratic nomination for Tarrant County Precinct 4 commissioner as well as U.S. and Texas House seats.

The partisan runoffs were triggered after the March 3 Democratic primary when no candidate got over 50% of the vote in races that had more than two candidates. If voters participated in a March 3 primary, they must vote in that same party’s runoff. If they did not vote in the primary, they can vote in whichever runoff they choose.
Whoever wins will face the Republican nominee on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Tarrant County Precinct 2 commissioner
Amanda Arizola and Jared Williams are facing off to represent a large portion of south Tarrant County on commissioners court. The winner will face state Rep. Tony Tinderholt, who comfortably secured the Republican nomination in March.
In March’s election, Arizola had 43.9% of the vote, while Williams had 36.4%. Gabe Rivas trailed in the Democratic primary with just under 20%.
The Precinct 2 seat has swung Democratic since 2018. Democrats want to keep it that way after a Republican-led mid-cycle redrawing of commissioner precincts.
Last summer, Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare told reporters the move was to make Precinct 2 more favorable to the GOP.
Current Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons, a Democrat, is challenging O’Hare for county judge. Also in November, Democrat Nydia Cardenas will face Republican Commissioner Manny Ramirez in trying to flip northwest Tarrant’s Precinct 4 seat. The five-member court currently holds three Republicans and two Democrats.
Texas House District 97
Democratic voters in southwest Tarrant County will decide who to nominate in the race for Texas House District 97. Beth Llewellyn McLaughlin, an activist and retired teacher, faces Diane Symons, a photographer and activist.
The winner faces Republican incumbent state Rep. John McQueeney in November.
The seat has reliably gone red since 1988, aside from a brief special election in 2007.
U.S. House District 24
The Democratic nomination for a portion of a U.S. House seat in northeast Tarrant County is up for grabs, with cybersecurity manager Kevin Burge facing entrepreneur TJ Ware.
The district stretches across Dallas-Fort Worth into Carrollton and has swung Republican since 2005. The winner will face Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Beth Van Duyne.
Statewide races
Democratic voters across the state will decide between Vikki Goodwin and Marcos Velez for the lieutenant governor nomination and pick either Joe Jaworski or Nathan Johnson for attorney general.
