“HOUSTON, I’M Home!” Torres wrote in a social media post announcing the move. She said she was “honored and grateful” to join KPRC and called the move “a homecoming” she will “always cherish.” Torres also thanked her family and said she was looking forward to more “conversations, stories, & service.”
The move brings Torres back to her hometown after several years reporting in other parts of the country. Most recently, she worked in the Rio Grande Valley as a weekend anchor for NBC 23 and a reporter for both CBS 4 and NBC 23 in Harlingen.
Before returning to Texas, Torres spent three years as a reporter in northern New York along the St. Lawrence River and the U.S.-Canadian border.
Torres was born and raised in Houston and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Chron has reached out to KPRC for comment about when Torres will officially begin appearing on air.
Torres is the latest addition during a busy stretch of staffing changes at Channel 2. In March, Dallas native Nicole Nielsen joined KPRC as a reporter after six years at CBS News Texas. Earlier this year, Stephania Jimenez made her debut as the station’s evening main anchor for the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.
The station has also seen several recent departures. In April, longtime health reporter Haley Hernandez left KPRC to join Memorial Hermann Health System in a media relations role after more than two decades in TV news. In January, anchor and reporter Zach Lashway signed off after more than four years in Houston.
