Texans truly love H-E-B — to the point that most could tell you their mapped-out path through the store on their weekly, or even biweekly, grocery shopping journey. But shoppers are in a tizzy as their staples (namely tortillas) are shifting around a 30-year-old H-E-B.
The location at 300 W. Olmos Drive is undergoing a transformation. While it will all shake out to be an upgrade for locals, it’s causing some panic for folks looking for their grocery staples.
“Some items within the store have been temporarily relocated as we work to optimize the layout and expand space in the center of the store,” an H-E-B spokesperson told MySA. “All products will return, and assortment is expected to expand once work is completed late next week.”
While strolling through the busy store nestled between Olmos Park and Monte Vista on Tuesday, May 26, aisles were stripped bare. But a plethora of H-E-B staffers were working tirelessly on the changing inventory, tacking handwritten notes onto shelves pointing shoppers in the new direction of their favorite merchandise.
It certainly caused some confusion, as shoppers could be seen approaching a familiar aisle, then turning on a dime, only to find empty shelves and busy workers. But it’ll be a short-lived transition as H-E-B officials say the process should wrap up by the end of the week.
So, by Friday, the store should return to normal, even if your tortillas, chips or salsa are in a new place. Plus, it’s all for the sake of bringing in new items and variety.
