MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Houston, the largest city in Texas, will be the newest available destination from Montgomery Regional Airport, with flights twice-a-day starting April 7.
“It’s going to open us up to more industry, more economic development, and more leisure travel too,” explained interim airport director Loyd Jenkins. “People want to go out and visit Houston. They want to go to the basketball games, football games.”
The flight is extra special because the airport is bringing in a new major airline to provide it.
American and Delta Airlines already fly out of Montgomery Regional Airport, and now you can add United Airlines to that list.
The Houston flights will be via United Express and operated by SkyWest Airlines, with “non-stop” service to George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
“To add a major carrier like United, for so many people that are going out west that are doing business really opens up opportunities for us,” explained Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed.
“You want to make sure you have those legacy carriers, a lot of it is brand recognition, that’s what a lot of people when they try to grab flights look for,” Jenkins said. “It also opens up competitiveness so that way you can get a good fare.”
Houston serves as a key connector to the west coast and Latin America.
