One United plane clipped another on the taxiway. No injuries were reported.
NEW YORK — A United Airlines flight bound for Bush Airport in Houston was involved in a minor collision with another United plane at LaGuardia Airport in New York Friday evening, airline officials said.
It happened as one aircraft was turning into its arrival gate and made contact with the tail of a plane that was stationary on the taxiway, according to a United Airlines spokesperson. Both planes returned to their gates safely, and passengers were able to get off the plane normally. No injuries were reported.
The Houston-bound flight, Flight 434, had 162 customers and seven crew members on board. LaGuardia’s flight tracker shows the flight was canceled.
The other plane, Flight 580, had just arrived from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago and carried 166 passengers and eight crew members.
KHOU 11 reached out to United and got the following statement.
“On Friday evening, United flight 580 was turning into its arrival gate when it made contact with the tail of United flight 434, which was stationary on the taxiway. Both planes returned to the gate and passengers deplaned normally. No injuries were reported. We are working to get our customers to their destination as quickly as possible.”
CBS News New York contacted the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for comment, but officials referred questions to United.
