WEATHERFORD – Wanda Jean Mays, 82, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on May 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite C, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Funeral: 2:30 p.m., Thursday May 28, 2026, at Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Interment to follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. Wanda was born on April 19, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas. From her earliest days, she carried a warmth about her that drew people in, a smile that truly reached her eyes and made everyone around her feel seen and valued. She had a gentle, compassionate spirit and a remarkable ability to see the best in people, no matter the circumstance. Her selflessness was not something she talked about; it was simply the way she lived. Of all her accomplishments in life, Wanda was most proud of her family and the legacy she and her husband built over 64 years of marriage. She was the constant presence on the sidelines, in the bleachers, and in the audience for every ball game, recital, and school event her children and grandchildren could dream up. She was, without question, their biggest cheerleader and most devoted supporter. Whether it was a championship game or a Tuesday afternoon practice, Wanda showed up with her whole heart. As the years passed and the pace of those busy seasons slowed, Wanda found deep contentment in life’s simpler pleasures. She treasured her morning coffee with her husband, watching the birds visit the yard, and tending to her flowers. These quiet moments reflected the peace she carried within her. Wanda’s faith was the foundation of her life. Her deep and abiding relationship with the Lord guided her through every season, and she lived out that faith daily through her love for others. Her family takes great comfort in knowing she is now home with her Savior, resting in the eternal peace she so faithfully trusted in. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Ruby Trussell; Sister Dorothy Stone, and Dorothy’s husband, John Stone. Wanda is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen “Jerry” Mays; her children, Missy Mitchell and her husband, Jeff, and Rodney Mays and his wife, Amy. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren; Cole Mays and his wife, Jill, Austin Mays and his wife, Mady, Kalee May, Ruby “Katie” Mowery and her husband, Sheldon, Matthew Mitchell, and Hayden Mitchell. Wanda is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren, Graham Mays, Tatum Mowery, and Marlie Mays. She is further survived by her sisters; Francine Bagwell and her husband, Mike, and Peggy Trussell, along with numerous cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
