KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Tennessee Lady Volunteers are set to face Texas in the opening round of the Women’s College World Series. The Lady Vols are looking for a little bit of revenge as it was the Longhorns who eliminated Tennessee in the WCWS semifinals last season.

Tennessee swept its way through the Knoxville Regional and Super Regional, going a perfect 5-0. The Lady Volunteers took down another SEC foe, Georgia in the Supers to punch their ticket to their 10th WCWS appearance in program history and third time in the past four seasons.
Texas is on its ninth appearance at the WCWS and won the program’s first-ever national championship last season. The Longhorns had to fight their way back in the Super Regionals after dropping game one to Arizona State. Texas completed the backwards sweep to punch its ticket to OKC.
Tennessee and Texas have only played 15 times ever with the last being last season in the WCWS where the Longhorns shutout the Lady Vols, 2-0.
The Lady Vols and Longhorns are set for the first round of the WCWS on Thursday. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm ET on ESPN.
