The true day of the meat sweats has arrived. Some folks may be celebrating Thursday, May 28, as National Burger Day by visiting their favorite fast food chains or paying way too much for a burger at a fancy restaurant, but for folks in Texas, May 28 stands as National Brisket Day, as folks near and far will descend upon their favorite barbecue joints.

In honor of the day of smoked meats, we asked MySA’s readers, “Who serves the best brisket in Texas?” With hundreds of replies across social media, we’ve pored through the results to see where Texans love to grab a slice of delicious brisket.

Unsurprisingly, Franklin Barbecue, whose pitmaster Aaron Franklin basically pioneered the modern version of Texas barbecue brisket, was one of the top suggestions. It was recently named the most iconic Texas barbecue joint by Business Insider, the latest in a series of accolades for the Austin smokehouse.

“Franklin Barbecue is still the MOST CONSISTENT BBQ,” Adolfo Rodriguez wrote on Facebook. “You can trust it will taste as good on Tuesday as it will the next time you come back! That’s the ONLY place I can confidently say I’ve never said ‘the pitmaster had an off day.'”

Burnt Bean Co. in Seguin – Texas Monthly’s No. 1 barbecue joint – earned a lot of support on Instagram, including a shoutout from Alex Serna of San Antonio Munchies. Popular spots local to San Antonio included B&B Smokehouse, 2M Smokehouse, Reese Bros, South Barbecue and even Pinkerton’s San Antonio outpost.

This Is How We Brisket Barbecue in Spring Branch got a shout-out from Lupita Garcia, who called it “the BEST in the hill country. Definitely a must for your next event. Great food and phenomenal hospitality.”

Castroville BBQ Company gave itself a shout out, answering “who serves the best brisket” by writing “On my humblest opinion… WE DO… humbly.”

Austin hot spots like Interstellar BBQ and Leroy and Lewis got a mention, as did The Salt Lick BBQ and the Saturday-only legend that is Snow’s BBQ. H-E-B’s True Texas BBQ also had a name drop, while some had a bit of fun by mentioning Bill Miller Bar-B-Q, fresh off being named the worst barbecue chain in America. No love for Smokey Mo’s or Rudy’s, though.

So, it’s safe to say everyone in Texas has their favorite spots when it comes to brisket. Count yourselves lucky that Texas has so many barbecue joints to choose from to satisfy any sort of meat cravings.
