CITGO’s spokesperson said heavy smoke was reported at the refinery Thursday afternoon, but no injuries or community threat were reported.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A fire at the CITGO Corpus Christi Refinery-East Plant was quickly contained Thursday afternoon after a pump caught fire at the tank farm, according to a company spokesperson.
The fire happened around 1:30 p.m. and produced heavy smoke visible from the refinery.
According to CITGO, refinery personnel followed emergency response procedures and extinguished the fire shortly after it started.
No injuries were reported, and the company said the incident did not pose a threat to the surrounding community, employees, or contractors.
CITGO also said refinery operations were not affected by the fire.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
