ARLINGTON — Paige Bueckers didn’t give much credence to the momentum the Dallas Wings brought into their Thursday contest against the defending WNBA champions, acknowledging ahead of the game that any team can win on any given night.
But after going 2–1 on a recent road trip, the Wings kept their streak alive with a 95-87 win over defending-league MVP A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces at College Park Center.
Dallas trailed Las Vegas 53-45 to close the second quarter, but the Wings won the second half, scoring 50 points out of the locker room. The Wings, now 5-3 after managing just 10 wins all of last season, saw their stars show out in Dallas’ second home win of the season.

“I can’t really remember a time where it’s gotten that loud and that electric,” Bueckers said postgame, reflecting on the excitement at CPC.
Forward Jessica Shepard, who joined the Wings in free agency on a multiyear deal, posted her second triple double of the season, recording 22 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists. She became the first player in WNBA history to have that stat line.
Shepard, who had a triple double in the Wings’ 99-89 win over the Chicago Sky last week, also became the first player in Wings history with multiple triple doubles.
“For me, these things don’t really matter so much. I came here to help this organization win and kind of take that next step,” Shepard said postgame. “I’m just proud of this team for being able to come out and beat a team like Las Vegas tonight.”

Back-to-back No. 1 picks Bueckers and Azzi Fudd combined for 42 points. Rookie Fudd, who on Thursday made her first start this regular season, scored 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting. She was 3-of-5 from 3.
“Anytime I can step on the floor with this group, it’s an honor. I don’t take it lightly,” Fudd said postgame. “To be on the floor, whether it’s coming off the bench, starting. [I’m] super grateful.”
Bueckers, who scored her first six points in the paint, had 20 points and six assists. Center Awak Kuier finished with 12 points and had two big 3s in the game.
Dallas shot 49.3% from the field and 45.5% from 3, outscoring Las Vegas by 16 points in the second half. The Wings held Las Vegas stars Chelsea Gray and Jackie Wilson to a combined 9-of-30 shooting. Wilson finished with 21 points on 10-of-24 shooting.

The win over Las Vegas marked Dallas’ second straight win over a recent champ, with the Wings topping the 2024 champion New York Liberty 91-76 last Sunday. Fudd and Bueckers each scored 24 points in the win, with the former recording a career-high.
Wings general manager Curt Miller said ahead of the season it might take some time for Dallas to piece things together with a new-look roster, a new coach in Jose Fernandez and several players arriving late to training camp. But the Wings have ascended early.
“Probably nobody believed that we’d have five wins right now and the type of wins that we’ve had,” Fernandez said postgame. “But I think everybody in that locker room and the staff believed it.”
Fernandez said later in his postgame news conference: “We’re not even close to being at the level that I think we can be at.”
