ESPN’s College Gameday will be in Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 showdown involving BYU football against Texas Tech.
The appearance was hinted at multiple times throughout the past week by Rece Davis and on Saturday by analyst Kirk Herbstreit. If Texas Tech took care of business against Kansas State in Manhattan, Gameday was going to be making a visit to West Texas for the BYU-Texas Tech clash.
Now it’s official.
It’s the second consecutive week that a team from the state of Utah is involved in College Gameday. This past weekend, Utah hosted Gameday for its Big 12 game against Cincinnati.

BYU is 0-3 all-time in games featured on College Gameday. It’s the first time BYU is the featured game on Gameday since 2020, when they traveled to Conway, South Carolina, to take on Coastal Carolina.
The other appearances were when BYU was in the Mountain West Conference, including a 2004 matchup against rival Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium and a 2009 game against TCU, which marked the lone College Gameday appearance in Provo.
BYU is flying high entering this game. The Cougars are 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Big 12 play coming out of a weekend where they had their second bye of the season.
Texas Tech is having its best season since 2008 with an 8-1 record and a 5-1 mark in Big 12 action.
The Red Raiders pulled away from Kansas State in the fourth quarter for their first victory in Manhattan in that 2008 season.
Next Saturday will be the third meeting all-time between the two programs. It will be the first meeting in Lubbock since 1940.
BYU won the last meeting in the series two years ago in Provo. It was the first matchup between the schools as Big 12 programs.
