The Texas baseball team opened its 65th NCAA Tournament on Friday with a rout in its own Austin Regional.
Texas, the No. 6 overall NCAA seed, overpowered Holy Cross 19-1 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. It was the most runs Texas has scored since the 2024 season and the Longhorns tied a school record with six home runs.

The Longhorns (41-13) will next face the winner of Friday night’s UC Santa Barbara (38-18) vs. Tarleton State (37-19) matchup in the winner’s bracket at 6 p.m. Saturday.

On a 21-hit afternoon in which every starter reached base at least once, the bulk of UT’s damage was done by Anthony Pack Jr. and Aiden Robbins. Pack, a freshman, became the first Longhorn to homer three times in a postseason game. Robbins also went deep.

Texas shut out Holy Cross over the first eight innings, but the Crusaders recorded three of their eight hits while scoring once in the final frame. Longhorns starter Luke Harrison threw just 50 pitches over four innings before UT chose to preserve his arm. Reliever Cody Howard was credited with the win.

As it attempts to extend its stay in this double-elimination regional, Holy Cross (25-29) will face the loser of Friday’s UC Santa Barbara-Tarleton State game on Saturday.

Texas added two runs in the seventh inning. The Longhorns are six outs away from a win, and Texas currently has just four starters (infielders Casey Borba, Adrian Rodriguez and Temo Becerra and center fielder Dariyan Pendergrass) still in the game.

Even with Anthony Pack Jr. out of the game, Holy Cross can’t retire the Longhorn batting third in UT’s lineup. Jayden Duplantier, who replaced Pack in left field after the latter exited with cramps, just hit a grand slam in the sixth inning. This afternoon, the No. 3 hitter in the Texas lineup is 4-for-4 with four homers, nine RBIs and five runs.
For the game, Texas has gone deep six times. That ties a school record and sets a new postseason standard.

For those wondering, Texas is not within three outs of ending this game. There is no run rule in the postseason.
Anthony Pack Jr. entered today with just seven home runs over 190 at-bats, but he is 3-for-3 with three homers, five RBIs and four runs scored this afternoon. In the fifth inning, Pack became the ninth Longhorn to record a three-homer game. His three homers in a single game is a postseason record for Texas, which is making its 65th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Between the fifth and sixth innings, Pack was removed from the game because of cramps. It is currently 90 degrees at the ballpark.

Not to be completely overlooked, Texas junior Aiden Robbins hit his second homer of the game in the fifth inning. Robbins now leads Texas with his 21 homers, which is the fourth-most in school history.
Welcome to the NCAA Tournament, Aiden Robbins. After not making the postseason during his two years at Seton Hall, Robbins hit a two-run homer to highlight a fourth inning that featured three runs for the Longhorns. That homer was the 20th of Robbins’ season, and he becomes the sixth player in school history to reach that milestone. One of Robbins’ predecessors is UT catcher Carson Tinney, and Texas now has two players with 20 homers for the first time.

Since it has seized control of the scoreboard, Texas will replace starting pitcher Luke Harrison with Cody Howard. Harrison threw just 50 pitches this afternoon.
Anthony Pack Jr. seems ready for the postseason. The freshman hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and he has now homered twice this afternoon.

Texas added to its lead in the second inning. An Ashton Larson single drove in Adrian Rodriguez, who got aboard with a ground-rule double.
Texas outfielder Anthony Pack Jr. did wait too long to make a splash in his NCAA Tournament debut. On the second pitch of Pack’s first at-bat of the afternoon, the SEC Freshman of the Year smoked a ball over the fence in right field. The baseball sailed 417 feet and nearly hit a bus that was driving down Comal Street.

Luke Harrison allowed a one-out double in the first inning’s top half, but the Crusaders couldn’t cash in on that scoring opportunity. A veteran left-hander, Harrison struck out three batters in the frame.
