LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Food Truck for a Cause is back this weekend, bringing a lineup of local vendors together to raise money for a different nonprofit each month.
This month’s beneficiary is Brittany and Devin’s Angels, an organization founded by Tiffany Lilly-Essix that focuses on mentoring and life skills for young people.
“There’s kids that need it, there’s families that need it, and sometimes they’re too ashamed to reach out and ask for it,” Lilly-Essix said.
Lilly-Essix says the nonprofit relies on community donations to keep its programs going.
“We rely solely on the community support for donations,” she said.
The organizers say 10% of participating vendors’ proceeds will be donated to the selected nonprofit.
“I’m just glad to partner with Ashley and all the other food trucks to be able to give back to our cause,” Lilly-Essix said.
Ashley Zubia, organizer of Food Truck for a Cause, says the event began as a way to help feed people in need and has grown into an easy way for the community to support local nonprofits.
“Maybe we don’t have the time or maybe we don’t have all of the effort that we can commit to helping the nonprofits, but this is a great way to do that and still show support for the community,” Zubia said.
Zubia says even a small purchase can make a difference.
“Know that your purchase is going to support the kids in our community,” she said. “These kids need to see that the community is behind them. This is a really easy way to help out.”
