Carter, who has a history of injuries in his brief career, was hit by a pitch in seventh inning Friday at the joint between his left ankle and foot but remained in the game until its completion. He arrived at the park on Saturday still sore and walking gingerly, so the Rangers sent him for precautionary X-rays. The club had released no update on the X-rays as of game time.
Carter spent three stints on the IL last year, including missing the last five weeks of the season with a wrist fracture after also being hit by a pitch. Because of injuries, he played only 108 games over the previous two seasons.
He has been healthy this year through the first third of the season and began the day having appeared in more games this season (56) than any other Ranger.
Michael Helman played center field in Carter’s place on Saturday.
